Mourning Cloak Butterfly Wood Earrings by Little Gold Fox Designs
These wood printed earrings were created by Arrowyn Craban Lauer of Little Gold Fox Designs of Portland, Oregon.
These earrings are printed with an original illustration of a Mourning Cloak (Nymphalis antiopa) butterfly wing on real wood veneer, which feels good in the hand and catches the eye with subtle textures, warm colors, and patterns of light. Each piece of wood gives the design a unique character; the complexity of the grain brings the art to life. Wood veneer is very sturdy so it holds up to the test of time – beautiful & practical.
• design is colorfast laser-printed and laser cut
• material is 1/16” thick sustainably-harvested multi-ply birch veneer
• 1" wide, and 2" long without the hook
• 100% biodegradable
• The hook is antique brass and lead- and nickel-free
TIPS FOR CARE: Wood earrings are very sturdy but it is not recommended to wear them in the shower or to bed.
Due to the variable nature of real wood, there will be small distinctions, and possibly slight rippling or minor imperfections which give each item its own individual character.
With my work I try to highlight the magic of the natural world and our relationship with it. I love the juxtaposition between old and new, between wild and cultivated. I feel like there's a powerful alchemy that can happen at this juncture between worlds and that's where I focus my design. Inspired by folk art traditions, but with a fresh modern perspective. My designs are printed on sustainably-harvested wood or recycled paper, and made into cards, bookmarks, jewelry, stickers, and art prints with eco-friendly packaging.
