Elizabeth creates these little raku-fired churches by hand... make your own little village!

Elizabeth Boggess lives and creates her work in Galena, Illinois.

Due to their handmade nature, the house you receive will be similar, but not identical to the one pictured.

"I met my husband Richard Hess (who was a potter) 27 years ago in Ithaca, NY. I went to shows with him and when asked if I was an artist I always said no, I was his technical support person…not an artist.  Richard was a willing and good teacher and taught me the basics of hand-building and we enjoyed being in the studio together. We did shows and enjoyed the time we spent working and playing with clay. Richard and I also taught pottery to many, many groups of Girl Scouts and Brownies while we were in Texas."

"We moved to Galena in 2014, set up another pottery studio and once again I have had fun spending time in the studio and playing around with clay. I started making my little raku-fired houses which were a collaborative effort with Richard as he did the firing. The clay is extruded and then each house is made by hand. The house form is fun for me and I enjoy each creation. I don’t consider myself an artist but someone who had the good fortune to be married to a guy who encouraged me to be in the studio and get my hands dirty."
