Leona Patchwork Earrings by Trecy Bleich
Handmade by Trecy Bleich of Atlanta, Georgia.
These earrings were inspired by American quilting. In the south of Georgia I grew up using homemade quilted blankets made by my great Aunt Leona. This design is another way for me to bring my culture into the form of jewelry art but in a modern way.
I hand beaded these earrings with three different beading techniques then added cotton thread at the bottom to complete the a crafted look. The earrings are made with recycled Japanese glass, hematite, and aluminum beads. To add a modern touch they are finished with 14K gold filled beads and handcrafted 14k gold filled ear wires.
Dimensions: 3" long.
When I began making jewelry 10 years ago, it was to pay homage to my mother, Evella Lawrence, whose style I admired as a young girl growing up in south rural Georgia.
My jewelry is made for customers who appreciate artistic details in design. Some of my pieces have mixed media elements but I try to maintain a minimal aesthetic. My pieces are named to empower women. I source materials from my husband's native country of Germany and the U.S. but every detail in my designs is done to uphold sustainable practices in production and materials.
I’m a lover of art, design, nature and the earth. My pieces are reflective of these attributes. Each year I align my company with causes to sustain humans as well as the earth. I give to organizations the Dogwood Alliance and the Lupus Foundation of America (in honor of my mom).
