This 12" x 12" mixed media painting is a combination of acrylic paints, and modeling paste finished with a layer of resin on a 1.5" deep wood panel, giving it a high gloss appeal, and lots of depth.

Created by Mary Ann and Michael Robinson Holmes of M. Robinson Artworks of Kansas City, Missouri.

M. Robinson Artwork is the collaboration of Mary Ann and Michael Robinson Holmes... creating unique art forms through the layering of materials.

Their works are vibrant and playful… intended to elicit happiness. The process begins with building each box, applying colored lightweight modeling paste. Then, they press objects (vintage toys, game pieces, etc.) or draw images into the modeling paste, leaving impressions. After the paste dries, they paint it with a coat of black gesso and allow time to dry.  Next, they layer vibrant, high viscosity acrylic paints onto the piece.  After the piece cures, Michael deconstructs the painting by sanding layers off, revealing the tinted modeling paste and gesso in selected areas.  Finally, a two part epoxy is carefully applied in stages, utilizing a torch to remove bubbles, thus creating the glasslike resin finish.

How did M. Robinson Artwork get its name? Michael Holmes already had a style of art that was more figurative such as architecture, buildings, bicycles, guitars and simple heart images.  He always wanted to develop an abstract line and after several years of experimentation, he developed the multi-step process to create his deconstructive paintings.  Since they are significantly different than his original line, he named them M. Robinson... M for Michael & Mary Ann (since they create them together) and Robinson, from his middle name.
