Growing up near Seattle, Washington, Hana’s early art influences were rooted in the Asian Pacific and Northwest Coast Native American culture of the area.
Always captivated by the contrast between the detailed, delicate, and graceful lines of Asian prints and paintings, and the strong, bold, geometric designs found on textiles, masks, and totem poles of the coastal tribes, Hana has found her own artistic perspective combining the familiar beauty of nature with her fascination with underlying patterns.
With a background in Astronomy, Physics, and Mathematics—fractals, constellations, and interference are never far from her thoughts.
"Now a transplant, raising a pair of first generation Iowans, I’ve become intimate with the natural beauty of the Driftless Region though countless walks, paddles, and pedals. New family traditions have emerged… my ‘portraits’ strive to capture the spirit of these treasured family adventures."
